Dutch deisgner Lotte van Laatum has taken trees literally as inspiration for furniture. The chairs and cabinets refer very subtile to the tree the wood comes from. Like the cjair second skin, which is based on the cycle of wood. Gathered branches have been 3D scanned and are translated into 3D milling work. This way the wood partly gets back into natural shape.
The wood comes from pieces of oak furniture from second hand stores which are not suitable for sale. This material is processed to become new wood from a very high quality.
The shape of the chair is based on the shape of a tree, conical. You start wondering what shape of tree your own wooden furniture has hidden.
The upholstery of Second skin is designed referring to nature overgrowing a structure. The textile of the upholstery is made from 80% recycled materials.
